The design of the American Buffalo is based on the 1913 five-cent “Buffalo nickel” by James Earle Fraser. The obverse side boasts the portrait of a Native American. The noble and solemn relief is based on the actual features of three different Native American chieftains. The reverse side is adorned with a majestic and darkly outlined bison, whose weary face is stamped with a fierce determination to defend its territory to the last. It is no wonder that the coin and its design are among the best-loved in the United States.

In accordance with US law, the American Buffalo coins must use gold freshly mined from US mines.

American Buffalo coin is investment grade gold and is therefore exempt from VAT.
